Tron: Ares Drops Hard in Second Week
Disney’s Tron: Ares fell sharply in its second weekend, sliding over 65 percent to $11.1 million from 4,000 theaters. The sci-fi threequel has now earned $54.6 million domestically after 10 days. Overseas, it collected another $14.1 million, including a disappointing $2.8 million debut in China. The film’s foreign total stands at $49.4 million, bringing its worldwide gross to $103 million against a hefty $180 million budget.
Good Fortune Misses Its Shot
Lionsgate’s Good Fortune, directed by Aziz Ansari, opened nationwide but failed to find box office gold despite positive reviews and a high-profile cast including Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh, and Keanu Reeves. The $30 million comedy, about a disheveled guardian angel trying to save a soul, earned an estimated $6.2 million from 2,990 locations, landing in third place.
One Battle After Another Crosses $100 Million Overseas
Warner Bros.’ One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, continues to perform steadily. In its fourth weekend, the film added $4 million domestically from 2,532 theaters for a U.S. total of $61.9 million. Overseas, it pulled in $11.8 million from 71 markets, pushing its international total past $100 million and its global haul to $162.5 million.
Roofman Hangs On to the Top Five
Miramax’s Roofman, starring Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst, rounded out the top five with $3.7 million in its second weekend. The film has now earned $15.5 million domestically and $16.4 million worldwide. Produced for $19 million, the crime comedy is distributed by Paramount in the U.S., U.K., and Canada.
