Longtime fans and new readers will soon have a new way to dive into Savage Dragon from the beginning. Image Comics will release Savage Dragon Compendium, Vol. 1, a massive paperback collection from Image Comics partner and CFO Erik Larsen.
The volume will collect The Dragon #1-5, including the expanded version of the original three-issue miniseries that launched the series in 1992. It will also include Savage Dragon #1-44 in one oversized collection.
A Major Collection for New and Longtime Readers
Savage Dragon Compendium, Vol. 1 brings the earliest adventures of Larsen’s superhero series together for the first time in one large volume. The release gives readers a chance to follow the story from its earliest days without tracking down individual issues.
A Direct Market exclusive variant cover will also be available. That edition will be sold only through comic book shops.
Savage Dragon Takes on Chicago’s Biggest Threats
The collection follows Savage Dragon as he defends Chicago from Overlord and the Vicious Circle. He also faces an all-out gang war and battles to prevent the destruction of Earth itself.
The story takes Dragon through some of the series’ most dramatic turns. He goes from cop to corpse and even travels to hell and back, literally.
Major Moments and Guest Appearances
The compendium also includes several major developments from the series. Readers will see the birth of Dragon’s son, the death and rebirth of Darklord, and Dragon’s rise to become head of the Special Operations Strikeforce.
The collection also features a long list of guest stars. WildC.A.T.s, Spawn, Hellboy, the Maxx, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and even God Himself appear throughout the stories.
A Landmark Run Nears Issue #300
Larsen’s Savage Dragon is the longest-running, full-color comic book series created by a single artist and writer. The character first appeared in a three-issue miniseries released during Image Comics’ founding in 1992.
The series continues to publish new single issues while remaining available in trade paperback and hardcover collections. It is now approaching another major milestone with issue #300.
That milestone gives new readers a timely reason to catch up on the series. Savage Dragon Compendium, Vol. 1 offers a single-volume entry point into decades of stories.
Savage Dragon Compendium, Vol. 1 will arrive at local comic book shops on Wednesday, November 18. The paperback will follow at bookstores on Tuesday, December 15.
The Direct Market Exclusive edition will also be released on Wednesday, November 18. That version will be available only through local comic book shops.
