Skybound and Image Comics, in collaboration with Hasbro, have revealed a new set of manga variant covers for the Energon Universe. Acclaimed manga artists Satoshi Shiki (Attack on Titan) and Manabu Yashiro (Tank Chair) created the new artwork.
The covers mark a first for the Energon Universe comic line. They will appear as 1:50 incentive variants in the E cover slot for four December releases.
Four Energon Universe Titles Get Manga Variants
The manga covers will appear on M.A.S.K. #7, Transformers #39, G.I. Joe #29, and Void Rivals #37. Fans can begin collecting the variants at local comic shops when M.A.S.K. #7 arrives on December 2, 2026.
Each issue also pushes its respective series into a major new development. The December lineup includes new story arcs, major confrontations, and pivotal battles across the shared universe.
M.A.S.K. #7 launches a new story arc with Scott Trakker caught in the middle of the action. Transformers #39 puts Optimus against a surprising foe.
G.I. Joe #29 delivers the final Night Force fight and promises the end of G.I. Joe as readers know it. Void Rivals #37begins the new Pit of Destruction story arc for Darak and Solila.
Manga Artists Join the Energon Universe
Executive Editor Ben Abernathy welcomed the chance to bring Shiki and Yashiro into the line. He highlighted his own connection to manga while praising the artists’ work.
“As a long-term manga reader, I was thrilled to have Japanese legends Satoshi Shiki and Manabu Yashiro join us for some gorgeous covers!” Abernathy said.
The Energon Universe Continues to Expand
The Energon Universe stands at the center of the collaboration between Hasbro and Skybound. The shared comic book universe has introduced a new era for both the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises.
The ongoing Transformers series is written by Robert Kirkman, with art by Jason Howard (The Astounding Wolf-Man) and colors by Mike Spicer (Stillwater). Void Rivals is written by Kirkman, with art by Conor Hughes (White Ash) and colors by Patricio Delpeche (Catwoman).
G.I. Joe is written by Joshua Williamson (Superman, Dark Ride), with art by Andrea Milana (Cobra Commander) and colors by Lee Loughridge (Universal Monsters: The Mummy). M.A.S.K. is written by Dan Watters (Batman: Dark Patterns), with art by Pye Parr (2000 AD) and colors by Pierluigi Casolino (DC vs. Vampires).
Skybound says fans should expect major developments in every Energon Universe issue. The line continues to reveal new secrets while moving toward answers to some of the biggest questions surrounding its flagship franchises.
M.A.S.K. #7 will arrive at comic book shops and digital platforms on December 2, 2026. Transformers #39 follows on December 9, 2026.
G.I. Joe #29 will be released at comic book shops and digital platforms on December 16, 2026. Void Rivals #37 closes out the month’s Energon Universe releases on December 23, 2026.
