Oni Press and William M. Gaines Agent, Inc. are putting David Lapham in the spotlight with the next installment of EC Comics’ artist-focused series. ARTISTS FROM THE ABYSS: DAVID LAPHAM #1 arrives December 30.
The special celebrates the multiple Eisner Award winner behind Stray Bullets and Detective Comics. It brings together some of Lapham’s greatest and goriest contributions to the new EC Comics canon in one ad-free collection.
David Lapham Returns to the Abyss
The issue collects stories of tension and terror written by several notable collaborators. The lineup includes J. Holtham(EC’s Cruel Universe), Matt Kindt (BRZRKR), Joe R. Lansdale (Jonah Hex: Two-Gun Mojo), and more.
Readers will also get a brand-new EC story that has never appeared before. Lapham illustrates the new shocker and co-writes it with Maria Lapham (Underheist).

‘Artists From the Abyss’ Celebrates EC’s Creators
The ARTISTS FROM THE ABYSS series begins in November with ARTISTS FROM THE ABYSS: CHARLIE ADLARD #1. Each special focuses on a different artist who has helped shape the new generation of EC Comics.
The publisher describes the books as “razor-sharp” collections of EC’s “greatest slits” from individual maestros of the macabre. Featured artists include Charlie Adlard (The Walking Dead), David Lapham (Stray Bullets), Sami Kivelä(The Forever Home), and Leomacs (Benjamin).
Each one-shot will also include an all-new story created specifically for that artist’s special. The writing lineup includes “all-slaughter” talents Chris Condon (Ultimate Wolverine, That Texas Blood), Greg Pak (Planet Hulk), and Ben H. Winters (Archie).
Four Specials Set for Winter Release
The first four ARTISTS FROM THE ABYSS specials will roll out monthly throughout the coming winter. The series gives each featured artist a dedicated showcase while adding a new story to the expanding EC Comics lineup.
