Illumination and Nintendo announced Sunday that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will now open in the United States and several other markets on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
The release moves up two days from its previously scheduled April 3 debut.
The film will open in Japan on April 24. Additional international territories will roll out throughout the month.
First Look at Yoshi Revealed
Alongside the date change, the companies unveiled a first look at a major new character.
Yoshi, the iconic green dinosaur, will make his debut in the animated franchise. The fan favorite is known for helping Mario and Luigi on their adventures.
His arrival expands the growing Super Mario cinematic universe.
Sequel Follows 2023 Blockbuster
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie serves as the sequel to the blockbuster 2023 hit The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
That film transformed Nintendo’s legendary plumbers into their first animated feature and became a global box office success.
The sequel aims to build on that momentum.
Star-Studded Cast Returns
Most of the original cast will reprise their roles.
Chris Pratt returns as Mario. Anya Taylor-Joy voices Princess Peach. Charlie Day is back as Luigi. Jack Black reprises Bowser. Keegan-Michael Key returns as Toad. Kevin Michael Richardson returns as Kamek.
The sequel also adds new voices. Bennie Safdie joins as Bowser Jr. Brie Larson voices Rosalina. Yoshi will also play a major role in the story.
Together, the returning stars and new additions position the film as one of 2026’s most anticipated animated releases.
