Image Comics is expanding the world of Lost Fantasy with the launch of Fireborn. The project brings together co-creators Curt Pires (Indigo Children) and singer-songwriter Franklin Jonas with rising artist Patrick Mulholland. The series debuts this April.

Fireborn arrives in comic shops and on digital platforms on Wednesday, April 22.

A New Hero Caught in an Ancient War

The series follows Aaron Hillburg, a wealthy runaway who avoids responsibility while clashing with his billionaire father. He spends his time hopping rooftops and disappearing from expectations.

Everything changes when a mysterious floating dragon egg bonds to him.

The encounter ignites a hidden lineage of ancient magic inside his body.

Suddenly, Aaron becomes a target.

Outlaw wizards, biker cultists, and supernatural warlords begin hunting him. They chase him from New York City to the World Beneath. They are willing to burn the world down to claim the egg from his corpse.

Franklin Jonas Brings a Lifelong Dream to the Page

For Franklin Jonas, Fireborn represents the fulfillment of a childhood ambition.

“Comic books will always be one of my deepest passions. Before I even touched music, my first dream job was to be a comic book writer,” Jonas said.

He credits early influences such as Matt Fraction and David Aja’s Hawkeye and Jonathan Hickman and Nick Pitarra’s The Manhattan Projects for shaping his love of storytelling.

Jonas said he rediscovered comics after talking publicly about his passion online. That led him to Lost Fantasy.

“There is nothing I love more than a book that creates an immersive world that creates its own distinct aesthetic and believes itself,” he said.

When Pires invited him to collaborate, Jonas accepted immediately.

“Curt has been an amazing friend to collaborate with, showing me the ropes and helping me understand the backstage of the industry,” Jonas said. “Patrick brings our wild ideas to life in such beautifully vivid ways.”

A Fast-Paced Fusion of Fantasy and Superheroes

The creative team describes Fireborn as a high-energy blend of fantasy and superhero storytelling.

The series targets readers who enjoy the intensity of Invincible, the emotional scope of How to Train Your Dragon, and the modern edge of Absolute Batman.

The goal is to deliver cinematic action while expanding the mythology of the Lost Fantasy universe.

Curt Pires on Friendship, Collaboration, and Growth

Curt Pires says Lost Fantasy has become one of the most meaningful projects of his career.

“Lost Fantasy has been one of the most special and gratifying projects for me to work on,” he said.

He credits collaborators Luca, Mark, and Micah, along with readers and retailers, for building the series’ momentum.

Pires says his connection with Jonas was immediate.

“Within minutes of meeting Franklin, I could feel the same deep love for comics that I have exists inside of him too,” he said.

That shared passion led directly to Fireborn.

“The result is Fireborn: a high octane fantasy superhero fusion,” Pires said. “It spins directly out of Lost Fantasy #9, which will release the same day as Fireborn #1 and be co-written by Franklin.”

Pires also stressed the team’s commitment to long-term world-building.

“I’m so grateful for the continued support from readers and retailers,” he said. “Fireborn is just step one in growing this universe. We remain committed to producing one of the best comics on the shelves and creating stories that bring people back to local comic shops.”

Fireborn #1 will be released on Wednesday, April 22, in comic book stores and on digital platforms.
