StudioCanal put several high-profile properties in the spotlight during its presentation at CinemaCon. The event marked one of the convention’s first major sessions in Las Vegas.
CEO and Canal+ chief content officer Anna Marsh appeared alongside executive vice president of global marketing and distribution Hugh Spearing to outline the company’s upcoming slate.
Paddington 4 in Development
Marsh confirmed that a fourth film in the Paddington franchise is now in development. A team of comedy writers is already attached to the project, though no names were announced.
The series continues to build on strong momentum. Paddington in Peru arrived in theaters in 2024 as the third installment. The franchise began with Paddington, directed by Paul King and based on the beloved character created by Michael Bond.
Escape From New York Reimagining
Spearing also revealed a new partnership with The Picture Company to develop a reimagining of Escape from New York.
The original film, directed by John Carpenter, starred Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken. The story follows a convicted criminal sent on a mission to rescue the U.S. president from insurgents in a dystopian Manhattan.
The Howling Also Gets a New Take
StudioCanal is also revisiting The Howling. The company is developing a reimagining of the classic horror title.
The original, directed by Joe Dante, starred Dee Wallace as a television news anchor who uncovers a colony of werewolves at a remote resort.
Expanding a Legacy Slate
The announcements signal a clear strategy. StudioCanal is investing in established properties with strong brand recognition while introducing them to new audiences.
