Dynamite Entertainment is bringing the heat this July with Vampirella Summer Special 2026. The one-shot pairs writer Erica Schultz and artist Adriana Melo for a new adventure featuring the Daughter of Drakulon.
A Vacation That Takes a Turn
Vampirella sets out for a rare break. As fans know, Drakulonians are not vulnerable to sunlight, so the beach is fair game. The plan is simple. Rest, relax, and enjoy the sun.
That plan does not last.
In the story “Rising from the Ashes,” the raven-haired antiheroine is suddenly thrown 2,000 years into the past. The surf is gone. Trouble takes its place. A nearby volcano begins to stir, and it is far from dormant. What started as a quiet getaway quickly turns into a fight for survival.
Schultz Returns to Dynamite
Schultz writes the oversized issue, marking her return to Dynamite. She previously earned praise for her work on Charmed and Xena. Her career has expanded with major contributions to Marvel titles, including X-Men, Daredevil, and Spider-Man. She also led the launch of the Hallows’ Eve series and has worked extensively on Spawn.
Adriana Melo Brings the Action to Life
Melo joins the project as a relative newcomer to Dynamite’s interior lineup. She previously contributed a cover for Red Sonja during a run by Gail Simone. Now, she takes on full art duties for Vampirella’s latest story.
Melo brings deep experience from across the industry. Her credits include Birds of Prey, Power Girl, Witchblade, Ms. Marvel, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy. Her style aligns well with Vampirella’s mix of action and horror.
Multiple Covers Highlight the Release
The special will feature three covers. Melo contributes her own take on the character. She is joined by artist Shannon Maer and CucumberCosplay, each offering a distinct summer-themed interpretation.
