Red Sonja Steps Back Into Noir

Red Sonja Noir

Dynamite Entertainment returns to the shadows this summer with Red Sonja Noir: The Plunder & The Princess. The extra-length special reunites writer David Avallone and artist Edson Novaes for another genre-blending adventure.

A Follow-Up to a Genre Experiment

Avallone builds on the success of last year’s Red Sonja Noir: The Crimson Calypso. That story placed the She-Devil with a Sword inside a classic detective narrative.

“Last year’s Red Sonja Noir: The Crimson Calypso was a fun experiment in genre-mash-up, placing the She-Devil with a Sword in a classic detective story… which some eagle-eyed fans easily spotted,” Avallone said. “I had a lot of fun with it, and Dynamite must have been satisfied because they asked for a second issue. This one is another fun riff, and Edson did a terrific job bringing the complicated tale to life.”

A Wedding Turns Dangerous

The new story sends Red Sonja to the island of Zaralina. The location serves as an exclusive enclave for wealthy merchants. She does not attend as a guest. She arrives as hired protection.

The mission quickly spirals out of control. Masked bandits storm the event. A powerful wizard joins the attack. A massive dragon follows. The wedding becomes a battleground as Sonja fights to contain the chaos.

A Creative Team Built for Action

Avallone and Novaes lead the 40-page story. The issue blends noir tone with high fantasy action. The creative team leans into atmosphere while maintaining a fast pace.

Variant Covers Add Style

The release includes multiple cover options. Artist Lesley Li delivers a moody interpretation that fits the noir theme. Robert Hack adds a retro-inspired design with weathered details. Cosplayer Molly Stewart brings the character to life with a dynamic cover appearance.

Retailers will also offer a premium mystery blind bag edition. The package includes rare variants and additional surprises for collectors.

Noir Meets Sword and Sorcery

Red Sonja Noir: The Plunder & The Princess continues Dynamite’s push to explore new tones within established characters. The result blends detective storytelling with fantasy spectacle in a single, high-energy issue.
