Image Comics will release an expanded and remastered edition of Wytches, Vol. 1 this fall. The new collection arrives ahead of the forthcoming animated adaptation from Amazon/MGM Studios.
Wytches, Vol. 1: Pledged Edition reunites The New York Times bestselling writer Scott Snyder, known for Absolute Batman, with critically acclaimed artist Jock, whose credits include Batman and The Losers. Their original series became one of Image Comics’ most successful horror titles.
The Collection Adds More Stories and New Colors
The trade paperback will collect Wytches #1-6 and the Wytches: Bad Egg Halloween Special. It will also include material from issue #7 of the Image! anthology.
A significant portion of the artwork has been recolored to match the upcoming animated television series. Colorist Matt Hollingsworth created the new color treatment for the expanded edition.
“Wytches was a deeply personal book, born out of the real fears I had as an anxious parent. It’s one of my favorite projects, and creating it with Jock made it all the better,” said Snyder. “So I’m incredibly excited to present it again in this new, souped-up edition with all the stories we’ve told over the years collected in one volume. Plus the new colors by Matt Hollingsworth make this the definitive version Jock and I meant to tell. This is a must-buy for any Litchfield fans and those waiting for the TV show!”
A Horror Hit Returns
Wytches launched in 2014 as a major announcement at Image Expo. It became one of the year’s top-selling comics and received multiple sellouts and reprints.
Readers quickly embraced the series, while major media outlets brought it wider attention. Coverage appeared in USA Today, The Washington Post, Entertainment Weekly, The Hollywood Reporter and other publications.
The series went on to become one of the decade’s most beloved horror comics. The new edition brings its original story together with material that has been more difficult for readers to find.
“I’m thrilled to see this new expanded edition released—getting the chance to pull together the rarer stories alongside our first major arc will give readers the full Wytches experience as we head into a new, exciting new era of our beloved story!” Jock added.
Ancient Creatures Hide in the Woods
For centuries, men and women have faced persecution and execution for witchcraft. None of them were actually witches.
Their suffering protected a terrifying secret. Real witches exist, and they are ancient, deadly creatures that few people ever see and even fewer survive.
The grieving Rooks family moves to the remote town of Litchfield in search of a fresh start. They do not know that something is waiting for them in the woods.
The presence is ancient, evil and hungry. Its arrival pulls the family into a nightmare that has remained hidden for centuries.
Wytches, Vol. 1: Pledged Edition will arrive at local comic book shops on Wednesday, October 21. Bookstores and digital platforms will release the trade paperback on Tuesday, November 17.
