Toy Story 5 kept flying high at the box office this weekend.
Pixar’s latest installment in its Oscar-winning animated franchise earned $70 million in North America in its second weekend. That was enough to keep the film in first place.
The sequel dropped 56 percent after its huge debut last weekend. It opened with $160 million, the biggest domestic opening of 2026 so far.
With Tom Hanks and Tim Allen back in the voice cast, Toy Story 5 now has $297.2 million domestically. It has earned $585 million worldwide.
The film comes from filmmaker Andrew Stanton and co-director Kenna Harris. It continues to draw strong family audiences.
‘Supergirl’ Hits Turbulence in Debut
Warner Bros.’ Supergirl opened with $38 million domestically and $68 million globally.
The film had been tracking for a debut near $50 million before slowing over the weekend.
Milly Alcock stars in director Craig Gillespie’s superhero feature. The film marks the second big-screen project in the planned slate from DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran.
It arrives one year after Superman earned $618 million worldwide.
Audiences gave Supergirl a B- CinemaScore. Superman earned an A-.
DC Looks Ahead
Supergirl follows Kara Zor-El, the cousin of the Man of Steel. The story brings her into contact with Jason Momoa’s Lobo and other DC staples.
The film carries a $170 million budget. That makes it less expensive than Superman, which cost $225 million.
DC Studios will next release the body horror title Clayface in October. Tom Rhys Harries stars in the lead role.
The Superman follow-up Man of Tomorrow is set to arrive in theaters next July.
Reviews for Supergirl were mixed. The Hollywood Reporter chief film critic David Rooney called it an “uninspired slog,” but praised “Milly Alcock’s hard-edged performance making her an appealingly punky protagonist.”
‘Jackass: Best and Last’ Lands in Fourth
Paramount also opened Jackass: Best and Last in wide release this weekend.
The latest entry in the gross-out comedy franchise landed in fourth place. It earned $8.4 million domestically and $10.3 million worldwide.
Director Jeff Tremaine returns for the fifth and supposedly final feature in the Johnny Knoxville-led series.
The previous film, Jackass: Forever, opened with $23.1 million in February 2022. The new installment has a smaller lift, with a budget of just $10 million.
Fans appear pleased with the mix of classic stunts and new footage. Best and Last earned an A- CinemaScore. The franchise had not reached that mark since the original Jackass: The Movie in 2002.
‘Obsession’ Keeps Scaring Up Sales
Focus Features’ horror hit Obsession placed third in its seventh weekend.
The film earned $9.8 million domestically. It dropped just 27 percent from the previous frame.
Director Curry Barker’s movie has now collected $233.9 million in North America. Its worldwide total stands at $370.1 million.
Spielberg’s ‘Disclosure Day’ Rounds Out the Top Five
Universal’s Disclosure Day finished fifth.
The UFO film stars Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor. Steven Spielberg directed the feature.
Disclosure Day earned $8.1 million for the weekend. It declined 54 percent.
The film now has $94.3 million domestically and $193.6 million worldwide.
A24 Opens ‘The Invite’ in Limited Release
A24 released Olivia Wilde’s relationship comedy The Invite on seven screens this weekend.
The film premiered at Sundance. Its cast includes Wilde, Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton.
The Annapurna-produced movie opened with $379,104. That gave it a strong per-screen average of $54,158.
‘Michael’ Becomes the Top-Grossing Biopic Ever
Michael reached a major milestone over the weekend.
The film’s global total climbed to $977.4 million. That pushed it past Oppenheimer to become the highest-grossing biopic ever.
Antoine Fuqua directed the Michael Jackson-focused feature. Jaafar Jackson, the late music superstar’s nephew, stars in the film.
Lionsgate released Michael in U.S. theaters on April 24.
Disney Crosses $3 Billion Worldwide
Toy Story 5 also helped Disney reach a major studio milestone.
Disney crossed $3 billion at the global box office on Thursday. It became the first studio to hit that mark in 2026.
The studio’s releases this year include Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Hoppers.
Disney also has its live-action Moana set for release next month.
‘Scary Movie’ Clears $100 Million Domestic
Paramount and Miramax also scored a comedy milestone.
Scary Movie crossed $100 million at the domestic box office on Thursday.
It became the first R-rated comedy to reach that mark since Girls Trip in 2017.
