The Ghostbusters are officially back in business.
Netflix’s long-awaited animated series now has a title: Ghostbusters: Night Shift. The show was first announced in 2022 and is finally moving forward.
Netflix revealed the show’s logo and title earlier this month. It followed that reveal with new details at the Annecy International Film Festival.
The streamer unveiled a first look, concept art, and the logline for the animated series.
A New Animated Chapter
Ghostbusters: Night Shift comes from Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation. The series already has a 2027 release window.
The project opens a new chapter for the ghost-hunting franchise while bringing Ghostbusters back to animation.
The series takes place in New York City in 1994. That setting places the story five years after the Ghostbusters took the Statue of Liberty for a walk.
Now, a new wave of supernatural terror hits the Big Apple. A group of scrappy young New Yorkers must step up. They are untrained, underappreciated, and kind of responsible for the problem.
That means they have to put on proton packs, face their fears, and bust some ghosts.
Franchise Veterans Join the Series
The new series brings together several creative figures with deep ties to the franchise.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire filmmakers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan will serve as executive producers. Franchise co-creator Dan Aykroyd will also executive produce.
Ben Hibon and Elliott Kalan will co-showrun the series.
Flying Bark Productions will handle the animation. The studio is known for Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Glitch Techs, and the upcoming Stranger Things: Tales from ’85.
Back in New York
Netflix has not revealed character details or casting information yet.
Still, the franchise’s return to New York gives the series a strong hook. The 1994 setting also places the story close to the original film era while introducing a new team of unlikely ghostbusters.
Ghostbusters: Night Shift premieres on Netflix in 2027.
