Oni Press and William M. Gaines Agent, Inc. team up for a dark Valentine’s Day treat. The publisher releases Tortured Hearts #1, a 56-page, coffin-shaped special built in the brutal spirit of classic EC Comics.
A Valentine’s Day Horror Anthology
The new issue leans into heartbreak with sharp humor and sharper edges. The premise is simple: love hurts, and sometimes it leaves scars that feel supernatural. The book arrives on the second Wednesday of February, right in time for readers who prefer their romance bloody.
Oni Press pitches the special as a gift for “lovesick lunatics, rancid romantics, and forlorn fatalities.” The story lineup comes from an all-star roster of writers including Jordie Bellaire (Redlands), Tini Howard (Excalibur), Blake Howard (Vampire: The Masquerade), Ann Nocenti (Daredevil), and Amy Roy (EC’s Epitaphs from the Abyss).
A Killer Art Team
The art team brings the same feverish energy. Sebastián Cabrol (Hulk: Maestro), Fabiana Mascolo (Cyberpunk 2077), Dan McDaid (EC’s Outlaw Showdown), and Arjuna Susini (Lamentation) headline the visuals, supported by a long list of additional contributors.
The issue also includes a newly restored classic from the EC vaults by William M. Gaines, Al Feldstein, and Reed Crandall. It appears in its original style, fully remastered for modern readers.
Covers That Cut Deep
Tortured Hearts #1 arrives with multiple variant covers designed to lure the eye. Dustin Weaver (Avengers), Miguel Mercado (X-Men), Tom Fowler (Refrigerator Full of Heads), Shawn McManus (Fables), and Patricia Martín (EC’s Blood Type) each contribute their own take on the book’s deadly romance theme.
Oni Press positions the release as a twisted box of Valentine’s chocolates filled with poison and charm. Fans can pick up Tortured Hearts #1 on February 11.
