Award-winning writer Simon Birks (Antarctica, One More Year, The Shadow Over Innsmouth) teams with artist Willi Roberts (Antarctica, The Dark, The Blood Below) and letterer Rob Jones (Hitomi, Skulduggery Pleasant) for a new five-issue horror series, The Thing on the Doorstep. The comic adapts the classic H.P. Lovecraft story and arrives from Image/Top Cow in February 2026.
A Friendship Warped by Cosmic Horror
The series pulls readers into a twisting tale of loyalty shattered by supernatural forces. Daniel Upton and Edward Derby have been inseparable since childhood. That bond breaks the day Daniel shoots his closest friend inside Arkham Sanitarium.
Every piece of evidence condemns Daniel. Yet he insists he is innocent and hints at horrors beyond human understanding. The series explores the roots of their doomed friendship and Edward’s slow submission to forces lurking beyond the edge of reality.
Birks Explores New Dimensions of Lovecraft’s Mythos
“I’m thrilled to bring The Thing on the Doorstep to life with Top Cow and Image Comics,” Birks says. He explains that adapting the tale gave him the chance to deepen both the cosmic elements and the psychological tension behind them. “This story delves deeper into the characters and adds a whole new dimension to Lovecraft’s mythos. I think both longtime fans and new readers will truly appreciate it.”
Top Cow Praises the Creative Team
Marc Silvestri, CEO of Image Comics and Top Cow and creator of The Darkness, Witchblade, and Batman: The Deadly Duo, praises Birks’ approach. “Simon Birks has an incredible ability to craft tension and emotion in equal measure,” he says. “We’ve been fans of his storytelling for a long time, and I’m confident readers are going to love what he’s done with The Thing on the Doorstep. It’s haunting, heartfelt, and utterly unforgettable.”
The Thing on the Doorstep arrives in comic shops and on digital platforms on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
