Magnetic Press rolls out deluxe hardcover editions of Guillaume “Run” Renard’s MFKZ this November. The Eisner Award-winning publisher begins with the first three volumes, timed for holiday release. These books mark a new chapter for the internationally acclaimed series.
MFKZ began as Renard’s 2002 animated short Mutafukaz: Operation Blackhead. The world expanded into a hit Netflix film from Studio 4°C, directed by Shôjirô Nishimi and Renard. The English-language cast includes Vince Staples, Kenn Michael, Giancarlo Esposito, Michael Chiklis, Danny Trejo, and RZA. The franchise now spans graphic novels, spinoffs, and a global fanbase.
A Wild Story of Alien Conspiracies and Urban Chaos
The series follows Angelino, an ordinary guy with an extraordinary circle. His best friend Vinz has a flaming skull for a head. Their apartment is full of pet cockroaches. After a scooter crash, Angelino is pulled into a storm of bizarre threats that push the fate of humanity to the brink.
Men in black, street gangs, and a squad of Mexican wrestlers all crash together in a battle against vicious cosmic forces planning to invade Earth.
A Universe That Outgrew Its Beginnings
“First realized as an animated short film by Run in 2002, Mutafukaz: Operation Blackhead established a world that grew into an entire universe of interrelated characters and conspiracies,” says Magnetic Press Founder and Publisher Mike Kennedy. He adds that the ideas quickly outpaced the short. Renard expanded the world into a sprawling five-volume graphic novel series that captured a hungry audience.
Prestige Editions for Longtime Fans and New Readers
The new hardcovers follow the success of Label 619 and Magnetic Press’ recent Kickstarter campaign for a limited-edition MFKZ omnibus. Each 8×11 volume showcases the series’ bold visuals and genre-bending storytelling. The editions are built for fans of action, sci-fi, luchador lore, and off-the-wall comics.
