Nicolas Cage steps into the Spider-Verse. Just not the one you expect. Prime Video has released the first teaser for Spider-Noir, bringing the Marvel character into live action for the first time.
A Gritty Take on a Spider-Man Variant
Cage plays Ben Reilly, an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York. He is forced to confront his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.
The Oscar winner trades bright spandex for a fedora and trench coat. The trailer shows him as a weary gumshoe and a black-clad web-slinger moving through a shadowy city.
The tagline sets the tone: “With No Power Comes No Responsibility.”
Cage’s First Leading TV Role
Spider-Noir marks Cage’s first leading role in a television series. He previously voiced Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but this is the character’s first live-action outing.
Two Ways to Watch
Prime Video also revealed a distinctive presentation plan.
The series will stream in two formats: “Authentic Black & White” and “True-Hue Full Color.” The original comics leaned into a muted, monochromatic style, and the series offers viewers the choice to embrace that noir aesthetic or experience it in full color.
The Supporting Cast
The ensemble cast includes Lamorne Morris (Fargo), Li Jun Li (Sinners), Karen Rodriguez (The Hunting Wives), Abraham Popoola (Slow Horses), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), and Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin).
With Cage at the center and a stylized noir approach, Spider-Noir aims to deliver a darker corner of the Spider-Verse when it arrives this summer.
Spider-Noir premieres May 27. All episodes will drop at once, making it a binge release.
