A Cult Classic Returns
The original Spaceballs debuted in 1987 from MGM. It arrived ten years after Star Wars became a global phenomenon. Directed by Brooks, the parody starred Pullman, Moranis, Zuniga, Wyner, and John Candy. Joan Rivers voiced a parody of C-3PO.
The film earned $38.1 million at the box office. It later built a strong cult following.
Josh Gad Teased the Project Early
Gad first hinted at the sequel in summer 2024. He shared the update on Instagram after turning in the script.
“Just handed in a film script that I think may be the funniest and best thing I’ve ever worked on and I am so freaking excited,” he wrote. He also praised Samit and Hernandez, calling the collaboration “heaven on Earth and many other planets as well.”
