Atlas Entertainment and Ghost Machine move forward with a feature film based on Redcoat, the hit comic series from writer Geoff Johns and artist Bryan Hitch. Brad Anderson handles colors on the series, with lettering by Rob Leigh.
Johns Writes the Script
Johns writes the screenplay from a story he develops with Hitch. Charles Roven and Alex Gartner produce for Atlas Entertainment.
Redcoat debuts in April 2024 and sells out immediately. The ongoing series quickly becomes a top performer for Image Comics and Ghost Machine.
Gartner speaks to the character’s appeal. “All great franchises are built on great characters and Redcoat’s Simon Pure is one of them. Funny, charismatic, and lovably roguish, he anchors the IP fantastically.”
Roven praises the creative team. “I have known Geoff Johns for many years and in some cases had a front row seat to his excellent work in the DC world. Johns and Hitch have formed a brilliant collaboration as writer and illustrator of the Redcoat comics, which have become a top selling fan favorite. Redcoat is innovative comic material and ripe to become a tentpole.”
A Hero With a Complicated Past
The story follows a British deserter who gains immortality during the American Revolution. He must confront his past and stop a dark conspiracy aimed at destroying America. The tone echoes the adventurous spirit of Pirates of the Caribbean and Indiana Jones, blending action and myth with American history.
Johns and Hitch celebrate their partnership with Atlas. “We’re thrilled to collaborate with one of the most accomplished producers working today. From Oppenheimer to Wonder Woman, Chuck Roven helped bring some of the most iconic and inspirational films of our time to the screen.”
Ghost Machine Expands Its Universe
Ghost Machine launches in October 2023 as a creator-owned media company. It builds and controls original universes across multiple genres. Its titles include Redcoat, the post-apocalyptic western Geiger by Johns and Gary Frank, the sci-fi saga Rook: Exodus by Johns and Jason Fabok, and the horror series Hyde Street by Johns and Ivan Reis.
Since its start, Ghost Machine has sold millions of comics and graphic novels through Image Comics. The company also secures key licensing partners, including McFarlane Toys and MEZCO.
Redcoat is available at comic book shops and independent bookstores.
