Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics team with Universal Products & Experiences for a new horror series. Universal Monsters: The Phantom of the Opera arrives as a four issue limited run from writer Tyler Boss and artist Martin Simmonds. Issue #1 lands in February 2026.
A Dark New Take on a Classic Monster
The series pulls readers deep into the Paris Opera House. Boss and Simmonds build a sharp, frightening reimagining of the legendary story. The creative team promises a fast, unsettling dive into the secrets hiding beneath the chandelier.
Boss says the Phantom stands apart. “It’s the only ghost story in the Universal Monsters lineup,” he says. He calls the Opera House the perfect haunted stage and praises Simmonds as the ideal partner.
Simmonds welcomes the return to this world. He says the early 20th century setting and grand architecture create the perfect backdrop for a supernatural thriller.
Christine Faces a New Terror
Christine, a rising soprano, watches her career collapse as violent crimes strike the opera house. The attacks grow stranger. A whispering voice follows her from the rafters. No one around her is what they seem.
An old friend returns to investigate. Christine then moves closer to the truth and to the masked figure known as the Phantom.
Skybound Senior Editor Diegs Lopez says the team delivers something bold. “Boss and Simmonds have crafted a beautifully horrific tale filled with grit and tension,” Lopez says. “Fans will devour it.”
The Next Chapter in the Universal Monsters Line
This series continues Skybound’s long collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences. It follows Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!, Frankenstein, The Mummy, and The Invisible Man. Each project pairs major comic talent with iconic screen monsters.
