Oni Press and Archie Comic Publications, Inc. have revealed the first look inside ARCHIE #1, a major new publishing initiative launching this September.
PEOPLE Magazine debuted the preview today. The new series arrives as Archie Comics prepares to celebrate Archie Andrews’ 85th anniversary.
The series brings together New York Times bestselling writer Ben H. Winters, multiple Eisner Award-winning artist Fábio Moon, rising star artist Nick Cagnetti, and multiple Shuster Award-winning cover artist Stuart Immonen.
The new ARCHIE #1 reintroduces America’s favorite teenager for a new era. It also launches Oni Press’ ambitious new line of Archie Comics titles.
A New Day in Riverdale
ARCHIE #1 follows 17-year-old Archie Andrews as he experiences Riverdale in a new way.
Archie has always had it all. He has loyal friends, football glory, and a charm that makes him the center of attention. Now, readers will see Riverdale through his eyes.
The story explores the town’s popular kids, oddballs, and everyone in between. Archie’s adventure moves through Riverdale’s past, present, and future.
It begins with a local film festival that threatens to turn everything upside down. At the center of the story is a mysterious paradox that only Jughead Jones may be able to solve.
The issue also includes puzzles, pin-ups, and other surprises connected to the same larger mystery.
Oni Press Celebrates Archie’s Legacy
Oni Press President and Publisher Hunter Gorinson said the new line marks a major moment for the company.
“One year ago, we started work on what has quickly become one of the most significant and anticipated collaborations in Oni’s 30-year history: our new and ambitious line of titles celebrating the greatness of Archie Comics,” Gorinson said. “Now, we’re proud to welcome a vital new member to that team: the phenomenally talented Ben H. Winters, who is teaming with the brilliant Fábio Moon to deliver an eye-popping, heartstring-pulling ode to what makes these some of the most celebrated characters in the history of comics.”
Gorinson said the new Archie line is designed to deliver bold, energetic entertainment.
“From ARCHIE to SABRINA and ARCHIE IN HELL, our new comics are brimming with pop and power, from content to design, each issue is intended to be a highly concentrated dose of pure entertainment and unadulterated bliss, propelled by the never-ending energy of Archie’s 85-year legacy,” he said.
Ben H. Winters Takes on an American Icon
Winters said writing Archie is both an honor and a joy.
“What an extraordinary honor it is to write these stories,” Winters said. “And more importantly, what a total blast. Archie Andrews is an honest-to-goodness American icon, right up there with Mickey Mouse and Bart Simpson…and just like them, he’s enterprising, curious, and kind, forever bouncing into some new adventure along with his loyal pals.”
Winters said Riverdale remains central to the appeal.
“I’m finding these characters delightful to write, for the same reason people have enjoyed reading Archie lo these many years — Riverdale’s just a fun place to hang out,” he said.
Winters Joins Oni’s Archie Comics Team
Winters brings a wide-ranging career to the project.
He is the author of several New York Times bestselling novels, including the acclaimed Last Policeman trilogy, Underground Airlines, and Big Time. Winters joined the writing staff of FX’s Marvel series Legion in 2019. He later created and served as showrunner on CBS’ hit series Tracker.
In 2024, Winters made his comics debut with Oni Press’ revived EC Comics line. He served as a central writer on CRUEL UNIVERSE, which debuted to strong sales and later earned an Eisner Award nomination.
His first full-length comics project, BENJAMIN, with artist Leomacs, followed in 2025 and received widespread acclaim.
Winters is also developing another creator-owned comics project for Oni Press. That project is scheduled for publication in 2027.
SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH Arrives in October
Oni’s new Archie Comics line will continue in October with SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH #1.
The series comes from Hugo Award nominee Corinna Bechko and Eisner Award nominee Kano.
The story follows Sabrina Spellman as she adjusts to the surprise revelation of her magical birthright. With Halloween approaching, Sabrina works to master her powers while navigating the pressures of being 16.
Her life becomes even more chaotic when Salem drops a mythical trickster on her doorstep. Sabrina must then find a way to keep her magical life and teenage life from colliding.
ARCHIE IN HELL Launches in November
In November, Oni will launch ARCHIE IN HELL #1.
The horror series follows a different version of Riverdale. In this world, Archie Andrews’ bright life turns dark after he is separated from his friends and trapped by a terrible curse.
The only way to save Archie is to damn him.
The series follows the legacy of Archie’s hit horror title AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE. Multiple Eisner Award winner Patrick Horvath and Eisner Award nominee Tyler Crook will lead the new horror story, which stretches from 1690 to the present day.
Archie’s 85th Anniversary Expands Across Media
The new Oni Press and Archie Comics partnership is timed to coincide with the 85th anniversary of Archie’s first appearance in PEP COMICS #22 in 1941.
The collaboration will also include a new line of compact comic collections and deluxe graphic novels from Oni Press this fall.
Archie Comics also continues to expand through publishing and licensing collaborations. A new live-action Archie feature film is also in development at Universal Pictures. Eisner Award winner Tom King is writing the film, with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller producing.
