Szymon Kudrański’s thriller miniseries No Man’s Land, published by Image Comics, is moving toward a film adaptation.
Producer Jason Berman’s A/Vantage Pictures, known for Highest 2 Lowest, is developing the project alongside Kudrański and Jon Levin’s Sustainable Imagination, the company behind All the Empty Rooms.
A Cold War Mystery on Thin Ice
No Man’s Land delivers a high-stakes murder mystery set against the frozen tensions of the Cold War.
For three months each year, a natural ice bridge connects the United States and Russia. The frozen crossing, known as the Ice Curtain, allows anyone to walk between the two superpowers.
In 1963, the body of a young woman turns up on that icy stretch of no-man’s land. The discovery threatens to shatter an already fragile relationship between the nations. Nuclear tensions rise fast.
An FBI agent and a KGB operative must solve the murder before the ice melts and war ignites.
The series is positioned for fans of True Detective, Whiteout, and Insomnia.
A Creator-Driven Vision
Kudrański created, wrote, and illustrated the series. His previous credits include Spawn, Action Comics, and The Punisher.
Tom Williams edited the book. Dc Hopkins handled lettering. The series falls under Kudrański’s One Man Art banner, his independent imprint for original work.
No Man’s Land marks his third solo creator-owned series, following Something Epic and Blood Commandment.
Image Comics Backs the Adaptation
Todd McFarlane, President of Image Comics and creator of Spawn, praised the project’s momentum.
“High concept ideas work in any medium, for Image Comics we are constantly looking for new ideas and stories that will grab a reading audience early and then hold them through the telling of the story arc,” McFarlane said. “And now, to learn that No Man’s Land will now get developed for a future theatrical release reinforces the talent level of Szymon and makes him yet another example of creators owning and controlling their own destinies.”
The No Man’s Land trade paperback collects issues #1 through #4. It arrives in comic book shops on Wednesday, April 22, and in bookstores on Tuesday, May 19.
