Nintendo’s latest console, the Nintendo Switch 2, has sold more than 10 million units since its June launch, the company announced Tuesday. That’s five times the sales of the original Switch, which moved fewer than 2 million units during the same period.
Updated Sales Forecasts
Driven by strong demand, Nintendo raised its full-year sales projection for the Switch 2 from 15 million to 19 million units by March 2026, the end of its fiscal year. In contrast, sales expectations for the original Switch dropped from 4.5 million to 4 million units.
Earnings Report Highlights
In its quarterly earnings report, Nintendo stated, “Although hardware sales decreased compared to the high demand seen immediately following the launch of Nintendo Switch 2 during the first quarter, performance remained strong with sales of 4.54 million units during the second quarter.”
The company added that from the console’s June 5 release through the end of September, Switch 2 sales topped 10 million units. Meanwhile, the legacy Switch recorded 1.89 million hardware sales during that same window.
Game Sales Soar
Software sales have also surged. Nintendo sold more than 20 million games for the Switch 2, with 8.1 million bundled with the console. Games made for the original Switch added another 61 million sales.
“Mario Kart World,” the flagship title for the new system, has sold nearly 10 million copies, while “Donkey Kong Bananza,” a Switch 2 exclusive, has reached about 3.5 million units.
Nintendo’s momentum suggests the hybrid console’s successor is on track to become another blockbuster in the company’s long line of gaming hits.
