The world of The Lion King comes to comic books this November with a new series by writer and artist Edwin Galmon.
Readers will return to the plains of Africa for fresh adventures with Mufasa and a young Simba. The story takes place during the golden era of the 1994 Disney film, when Simba is still a cub and Scar has not yet seized power. Audiences will follow Mufasa and his son as they explore the vast Pride Lands and navigate complex relationships. Mufasa will guide Simba through lessons of leadership, defense, and the balance of peace inside and outside their kingdom.
Edwin Galmon, known for his work on Lilo & Stitch, The Terminator, and Mr. Terrific: Year One, now takes on his largest project yet. This series marks both his major writing debut and his biggest artistic challenge.
“Working on The Lion King is humbling,” Galmon said. “It’s where my childhood imagination meets my adult craft. My favorite moments from the movie were when Mufasa and Simba were together. I wanted more of that bond—fatherly guidance, playful moments, and mentorship. That’s what this story brings to life.”
The comic will feature beloved characters along with new faces. It tells a heartfelt father-son story, perfect for readers of all ages. Parents can enjoy sharing the series with their children.
Galmon is joined by artists Meghan Hetrick, Jacob Edgar, and Giulia Lomurno, who will each provide variant covers.
The Lion King remains one of Disney’s most celebrated films. The award-winning classic continues to inspire across generations and media. This new Dynamite comic connects back to the publisher’s earlier Disney project, Disney Villains: Scar, which first brought the Pride Lands to comics.
