Oni Press has announced Faceless and the Family: Maze of the Mechanical Aliens #1, the start of a four-issue limited series arriving July 1. The project marks a new chapter in the science fiction saga from Eisner Award–nominated creator Matt Lesniewski, known for Crimson Flower and The Freak.
The series follows the events of 2024’s Faceless and the Family but introduces a self-contained story designed for both returning readers and newcomers.
A New Chapter Begins
Lesniewski says the story continues the broader journey while opening the door to new readers.
“Get ready for more Faceless. The journey picks up right where it left off at the end of Volume One, but this is a brand new story,” he said. “The quest to find Faceless’ family continues, but the crew faces an otherworldly obstacle and new characters.”
He added that readers can jump in at this issue or start from the beginning, pointing to more than 200 pages of story already available.
A Dangerous Transformation
The new arc raises the stakes for Faceless and his crew.
Set on the class-divided alien world known as the Hand Planet, the story follows Faceless as he becomes bonded to a living suit of extraterrestrial armor. The suit refuses to release him and begins to exert control.
As the armor tightens its grip, Faceless faces a physical and psychological battle. His team must navigate a strange and dangerous landscape to try to free him, though survival is far from guaranteed.
Hunter Gorinson, President and Publisher of Oni Press, praised Lesniewski’s work and vision.
“With each new page, Matt shows why he is one of the most exciting visual storytellers of his generation,” Gorinson said. “The series delivers detailed environments, imaginative world-building, and a compelling cast of characters. It offers a strong entry point into a unique and fully realized creative vision.”
Faceless and the Family: Maze of the Mechanical Aliens #1 arrives in comic shops on July 1.
The issue features cover art by Lesniewski, along with contributions from Dave Stewart, Kelley Jones, José Villarrubiá, and Noah Bailey.
