Fan-favorite writer Wyatt Kennedy and rising star artist Luigi Formisano are set to push their vampire series Nights into darker territory this summer. The new story arc begins with issue #19, arriving in July from Image Comics.
The issue launches a major shift in the series and continues the story following the events of issue #12.
A Shift Into Dark Fantasy
Kennedy describes issue #19 as a turning point for the series.
“This is the issue I’ve been most excited to tell since the beginning,” he said. “Luigi and I have always believed Nightsis about change. With this chapter, we flip the status quo and move from a comedic slice-of-life adventure into a true dark fantasy epic.”
He promises higher stakes across the board, including danger, death, heartbreak, and major surprises. Kennedy also expressed gratitude to Image Comics for supporting the evolution of the story.
Formisano echoed that excitement.
“I had a lot of fun pushing the dark fantasy elements,” he said. “We leaned into faster, more intense storytelling, with heavy shadows, brutal creatures, and vampires everywhere. With Vince finally awake and everything closing in, things are about to get messy.”
Vince Awakens as the Threat Closes In
Issue #19 centers on Vince, who awakens as a vampire after a three-month coma. Gray has disappeared, and danger is closing in fast.
Chimera’s forces are hunting the creature responsible for the town’s destruction. Their pursuit intensifies as a new threat arrives. A legendary vampire conquistador named Eda enters the story, raising the stakes even further.
High Praise From Image Comics
Eric Stephenson, Chief Creative Officer and Publisher at Image Comics, praised the creative team and the series.
“Wyatt and Luigi are one of comics’ best kept secrets,” Stephenson said. “Nights is a treasure hiding in plain sight. Every issue has delivered, and I envy anyone discovering it for the first time.”
Nights #19 hits comic book shops and digital platforms on Wednesday, July 1, marking the start of a bold new era for the series.
