Eisner Award-nominated artist Ben Templesmith is joining The Department of Truth as interior artist for an all-new story arc. The bestselling thriller series by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds returns next month with issue #36 from Image Comics.
The new chapter launches Wednesday, March 25, and promises a darker dive into the series’ unsettling mythology.
A Long-Time Wish Fulfilled
“Ben is actually one of the first-ever artists we dreamed of inviting to do a guest story arc of The Department of Truthway back when the series launched,” Tynion said. “So it’s thrilling to have him on this story that’s millions of years in the making.”
Tynion teased major revelations ahead. The arc will uncover the buried history of one of the Department’s legacy families. It will also reveal the evangelical origins of Charity, the deadliest new member of Lee’s crew. And yes, dinosaurs play a role. Lots of dinosaurs.
Templesmith Steps Into the Chaos
Templesmith described the experience with characteristic wit.
“I am that child you shouldn’t give scissors to, because I’m clearly going to run around with them,” he said. “But it’s hellishly fun to run around with what James and Martin have done with The Department of Truth and let me have a little go. It’s been a blast!”
What the New Arc Is About
The story is set in the early 1990s, when cable TV rules and something ancient lurks within the static. Only Hunky, the reclusive son of the field office’s very first hunter, takes the threat seriously.
When he uncovers signs of a primordial evil forming at an evangelical theme park in the Florida Everglades, Hunky may be the only one who can stop it. His mission could also save Charity, a beautiful young woman trapped at the center of the growing horror.
The Department of Truth #36 arrives in comic book shops and digital platforms on Wednesday, March 25.
