The truth is heading back to comic book shelves. Dynamite Entertainment and Disney Publishing Worldwide have revealed new details about the return of The X-Files to comics. The new series officially launches this December with another collection of cases involving FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
Joe Harris Returns to The X-Files
Veteran X-Files writer Joe Harris returns to the franchise alongside artist R.D. Brown. Together, they will open a new set of declassified cases from the X-Files vault.
The series takes place sometime after “My Struggle IV,” the finale of the show’s eleventh season. The story brings Mulder and Scully back to the FBI’s X-Files division as they confront the consequences of the series finale.
The agents are still dealing with the loss of their child William and the presumed death of the Cigarette Smoking Man. Scully’s revelation that she is pregnant again also remains unresolved.
Those personal struggles soon collide with another conspiracy. Mulder and Scully discover evidence of a secret alien presence while a mysterious organization searches for the same phenomenon.
That organization has its own agenda. It intends to harness the alien presence for purposes that could once again put Mulder and Scully directly in danger.
A Familiar Creative Team Expands the Mythology
Harris brings extensive experience with the franchise to the new series. He has already written nearly 60 issues of The X-Files comics.
His return continues his long connection with Mulder and Scully while extending the television mythology beyond the events of Season 11. Brown joins him in bringing these newly declassified cases to the page.
“The X-Files only gets more relevant as the years go by and the government gets weirder and weirder, the UFOs become mainstream, and the trust in institutions, from the government on down, gets harder and harder to spare,” Harris said.
Dynamite Reveals a Full Lineup of Covers
Dynamite is also giving collectors several cover options for the first issue. Artists Clayton Crain and Ivan Tao contribute artwork designed to capture the franchise’s eerie atmosphere.
Charlie Adlard also returns to the world of The X-Files. The Walking Dead artist previously worked on Mulder and Scully comics published by Topps during the 1990s.
Another cover reaches back to that same era. A special icon edition features a classic mixed-media image by Miran Kim.
Collectors looking for rarer artwork can choose a blind bag edition. Those packages will include rare variants, including an exclusive piece by Martin Morazzo, known for The Deadman and Ice Cream Man.
The X-Files #1 will be available beginning December 9. The launch marks another chapter for Mulder and Scully as their investigation into unexplained phenomena and hidden conspiracies continues.
