‘VisionQuest’ Brings Vision and Ultron Back for Oct. 14 Premiere

VisionQuest

Marvel is preparing to close the chapter it opened with WandaVision. The studio has released the first trailer for VisionQuest and confirmed that the series will premiere Oct. 14.

The new show brings Paul Bettany back as Vision and marks another major step in the character’s complicated Marvel Cinematic Universe story. It also reunites him with James Spader, who returns as Ultron more than a decade after playing the villain in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Bettany Jokes About Vision’s Many Lives

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige introduced Bettany and Spader as part of the VisionQuest presentation. Bettany used the moment to look back on the unusual journey Vision has taken since joining the MCU.

“It’s been an enormous joy playing Vision as he’s evolved through the years, helped turned the tide in some enormous battles… rather inconveniently died a number of times … Although I’m told in the Marvel universe no one is really dead, unless Kevin says they are,” Bettany said. He followed the comment by introducing a trippy first trailer for the new series.

The WandaVision Story Moves Forward

VisionQuest serves as the latest chapter in the story that began with 2021’s WandaVision. That series followed Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, as she struggled with grief after Vision’s death in Avengers: Infinity War.

Marvel expanded that story in 2024 with Agatha All Along. The spinoff shifted the focus to Agatha, the WandaVisionantagonist played by Kathryn Hahn.

With VisionQuest, the spotlight moves back to Bettany’s character. The series is positioned as the final installment in the trilogy that started with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along.

Terry Matalas Takes Control

Terry Matalas is leading VisionQuest after serving as showrunner on Picard. His involvement brings a creator known for character-driven science fiction into one of Marvel’s most unusual corners.

The return of Ultron also creates a direct connection to Vision’s origins in the MCU. Spader first played the artificial intelligence in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the same film that introduced Bettany as Vision.

Bettany’s Marvel Run Started With Iron Man

Bettany has been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its beginning. Before appearing on screen as Vision, he voiced Tony Stark’s AI assistant Jarvis in 2008’s Iron Man.

He made the transition from voice role to live-action Avenger in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Bettany continued playing Vision in subsequent Marvel films and later became a central figure in WandaVision.

His work with the character has also extended into animation. Bettany voiced Vision in Marvel’s animated series What If…?

Now, VisionQuest brings him back to the center of the story. With Vision returning, Ultron resurfacing and the WandaVision saga approaching its conclusion, Marvel is setting the stage for the final chapter when the series premieres Oct. 14.
