Dynamite is returning to the world of “Vampirella vs. Red Sonja” this August.
The publisher has announced “Vampirella vs. Red Sonja: Red City,” a new action-packed special from writer Chuck Brown and artist Paulo H. Mel.
The story brings readers back to the mythos built around Vampirella, the Daughter of Drakulon, and Red Sonja, the She-Devil With a Sword.
The Story Builds on Earlier Titles
Writer Dan Abnett previously brought both characters into the orbit of The Project.
That storyline played out across three titles: “Red Sonja: The Superpowers,” “Vampirella: The Dark Powers,” and “Vampirella vs. Red Sonja.”
All three titles are now available as collected editions.
Chuck Brown and Paulo H. Mel Take Over
Brown brings major award-winning experience to the special. He is a multiple-time Eisner and Ringo Awards winner whose credits include “Bitter Root,” “Aquaman,” “Titans,” and “Disney Villains: Scar.”
He teams with rising illustrator Paulo H. Mel, whose credits include “Transformers: Song of Jupiter” and “We Wicked Ones.”
Together, they return to the franchise with a new twist on its fantasy and horror-driven world.
“The art, plot, and settings of Vampirella vs. Red Sonja take the characters back to their roots in a melting pot of Warriors, Blood, Swords, Magic, and Bikinis,” Brown said.
Vampirella and Red Sonja Enter the Red City
In “Red City,” Vampirella and Red Sonja find themselves trapped in a nightmare world.
The Red City is a melting pot of magic, vampires, and barbarians. To escape, the two heroines must recruit some of their recent superpowered allies.
That includes the heroic Dyna Might. Together, they must fight their way out and return home.
Covers and Collector Options
“Vampirella vs. Red Sonja: Red City” will feature several covers.
The lineup includes work from Sebastian Piriz and Diego Yapur, along with a trio of covers by model Ivy Cosplay.
Two of Ivy Cosplay’s covers feature her portraying each heroine separately. A third cover uses editing to show her appearing alongside herself as both Vampirella and Red Sonja.
Collectors will also have a chase option. Dynamite will offer a premium mystery blind bag that includes three limited-edition variants of the issue.
