Dynamite Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products have revealed a major update to the ThunderCats X SilverHawks comic book crossover.
Fan-favorite artist Drew Moss will join the series as the ongoing interior artist following the first issue.
Writer and artist Declan Shalvey illustrated the debut issue himself while handling writing duties. Now the series shifts to a two-creator cockpit as Moss steps in to continue the artwork for the flagship crossover title.
Declan Shalvey Launches the Series
Shalvey previously explained why he chose to draw the opening issue.
“I felt it was the right opportunity to invest into the franchise a little more. Why let Drew have all the fun…?” Shalvey said at the time. “I was also looking to write and draw something again, not having drawn a whole comic in nearly a year. The planets aligned, I guess, or Third Earth specifically aligned.”
With the first issue complete, Shalvey now welcomes Moss to help guide the story forward.
A Creative Team With History
Shalvey and Moss first collaborated on ThunderCats #1 in February 2024. The series quickly gained fan attention and climbed the sales charts.
Franchise editor Nate Cosby brought in guest artists for several standalone issues between major arcs. Even so, Moss illustrated most of the run across two years. He also contributed several covers.
Now Moss returns for the largest story in the franchise so far.
“I am really excited to be working with Declan again and with these characters I grew up with,” said Moss. “Drawing the ThunderCats for two years and now getting to work with the SilverHawks too is a dream come true!”
Shalvey praised the partnership.
“Drew and I launched this book together and he has built this larger saga with me brick by brick over the last couple of years,” Shalvey said. “I knew if I was going to do art duties on the first issue of this big crossover series, there is no one else who deserves to draw the rest more than Drew. I’m very excited to see what Drew will do on an event-level book like this and it’s so cool to be drawing a series with him, and not just writing for him.”
The Crossover Story Expands
The opening chapters leave both teams shaken.
The SilverHawks descend on Third Earth with orders to capture every ThunderCat they can find. However, they fail to account for the ferocious instincts of Cheetara.
ThunderCats X SilverHawks #2 continues the action with covers by Declan Shalvey, Lucio Parrillo, Eric Canete, Chuma Hill, and a piece drawn from the animation archives.
More Chapters Continue the Event
The crossover also continues through several companion titles.
Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living #2, written by Shalvey with art by Rapha Lobosco, finds the ancient sorcerer awakening on Second Earth. Trapped in a strange cycle of death and rebirth, Mumm-Ra seeks a pact with the Ancient Spirits. The deal could grant him powerful magic, but it carries a dark cost tied to immortality.
Later in May, ThunderHawks #2 by Ed Brisson and Vincenzo Federici follows the ThunderCats trapped in SilverHawks armor. Lost in space and time, the team prepares to escape a dystopian future. Their plan will require enormous power and a dangerous diversion. It will also demand a sacrifice that could shake both the team and the entire franchise.
