Dynamite Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products are launching a new era of ThunderCats comics. Acclaimed writer Greg Pak will lead the series when it begins this October.
Pak, whose credits include Planet Hulk and Darth Vader, will work with artist David Cousens. The new series offers readers a fresh starting point while expanding the world of Third Earth.
The ThunderCats Adjust to Life on Third Earth
The ThunderCats once ruled Thundera as proud sovereigns. Now, they live as exiles on Third Earth and must share the planet with the SilverHawks, the cat-hating Mu’Tants and several unexplored societies.
Lion-O remains a young man trapped in an adult body. As Lord of the ThunderCats, he longs for action, heroism and new challenges.
However, Third Earth needs diplomacy rather than conquest. Its people must work together as equals to create a lasting peace.
Tygra urges Lion-O to act with patience and restraint. Calica, who first appeared in ThunderCats (2024) #2, also offers her friendship and support.
Lion-O puts aside his pride and prepares for the challenge. His plans change when a mysterious meteor streaks across the sky.
A New Threat Arrives
The meteor casts a strange light over a gathering of Third Earth’s tribes. Its arrival raises questions about the mysterious Feral King and his true mission.
Who will the Feral King defend, and who will he destroy? The fate of the ThunderCats, Mumm-Ra’s legions and every society on Third Earth hangs in the balance.
Greg Pak and David Cousens Lead the Series
Pak has written major stories for franchises including Batman/Superman, Planet Hulk, World War Hulk, X-Men and Darth Vader. His new series will introduce a different roster of ThunderCats and SilverHawks, along with new costumes and character designs.
Rising artist David Cousens will bring Pak’s scripts to the page. The creative team also includes colorist Igor Monti, letterer Jeff Eckleberry and editor Nate Cosby.
“I’ve been hungry to dig into a story like this for years,” said writer Greg Pak. “Anything can happen on Third Earth, and if you’ve ever watched the original ThunderCats cartoons, you know that anything and everything did. There’s a huge element of surprise and wildness to this particular mix of science fiction and fantasy, and we’re taking it as far as we can. I’m also thrilled to be working on a story that feels deeply relevant about heroes slamming up against the limits of monarchy and teetering between triumph and catastrophe as they struggle to become a free people. Huge fun, massive action, big emotion, and searing relevance? You want this book!”
Cousens Returns to the ThunderCats Universe
Cousens has already created several covers for the franchise. He also provided interior artwork for the Cheetara: Worldbreaker special.
The artist will now handle the interior pages for Pak’s new series. His work will help shape the next chapter of Dynamite’s expanding ThunderCats universe.
Variant Covers Include a Mystery Surprise
ThunderCats #1 will feature covers by Cousens, Mark Spears, Daniele Cellini, Stephen Byrne and Seth Damoose. Collectors can also search for rare variants through mystery blind bag offerings.
Dynamite says the blind bags could contain a major surprise and a first for the publisher. The company will reveal more details when the issue arrives to avoid spoiling the discovery for fans.
Dynamite Expands the ThunderVerse
The new series joins ThunderCats: Cheetara, the previously announced companion comic. Writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Andrea Arcari will create the character’s first ongoing solo series.
Both titles follow the conclusion of the ThunderCats X SilverHawks crossover event. That event ended the first era of Dynamite’s “ThunderVerse” stories, which featured work by Declan Shalvey, Ed Brisson, Drew Moss and other creators.
