The classic spy thriller The Odessa File is making a comeback. Zero Gravity Management (Ozark) and Romulus Films are developing a new TV series based on Frederick Forsyth’s best-selling novel. The project follows Universal’s recent success with The Day of the Jackal, another Forsyth favorite.
A Deadly Hunt Through 1960s Germany
At the center of the story is journalist Peter Miller. When he uncovers a secret network of former Nazi SS officers, he risks everything to expose them. His search takes him deep into postwar Germany and face-to-face with one of history’s most dangerous men. Expect suspense, betrayal, and a tense cat-and-mouse chase that pushes him to the edge.
Modern Energy Meets Classic Storytelling
Director and writer Simon Fellows (Steel Country) brings the story to life with what he calls “a visually intoxicating ride, with an emotive soundtrack, cinematic visuals, and plenty of danger.” The series promises a fast-paced mix of period mystery, thriller, action, and revenge drama — all fueled by 1960s autobahns and high-stakes tension.
Coming to Screens Soon
The first season is planned for eight episodes, with more seasons expanding the story into the present day. Casting and platform details are still under wraps, but talks are underway with several major streaming services.
A Legacy of Big-Screen Thrills
Romulus Films produced the original Odessa File in the 1970s, starring Jon Voight, along with other classics like The Day of the Jackal, Oliver!, and The African Queen. The new adaptation aims to honor that legacy while bringing modern intensity and visual power to today’s audiences.
A Fresh Take on a Timeless Story
“This isn’t a remake,” says Fellows. “It’s a fresh, modern take that blends genres and keeps the adrenaline high.”
Zero Gravity adds, “Forsyth’s stories feel as real today as ever. We can’t wait to reintroduce The Odessa File to fans old and new.”
