Oni Press announced SUPER MONDO MEGA MUTTS #1 (of 4), a new limited series launching this July. The debut arrives as a double-sized, 40-page first issue.
The series comes from writer Curt Pires (Lost Fantasy, Fireborn) and artist Juan Gedeon (DC: The Jurassic League, COW-Boys of Moo Mesa). Together, they introduce a team of loud, chaotic, anthropomorphic anti-heroes with sharp teeth and bigger attitudes.
Creators on the Collaboration
“It’s been thrilling to watch Oni Press reach new heights the last couple years under the tenure of Hunter Gorinson, Sierra Hahn, and the whole team,” said Pires. “I couldn’t be more excited to bring them one of my best ideas ever. This is a book that is big, bombastic, and heartfelt. It’s capable of bringing new folks into comic shops. I’m ecstatic to be creating it with my masterful collaborator Juan Gedeon.”
Gedeon echoed the enthusiasm. “SUPER MONDO MEGA MUTTS is the kind of book I grew up loving and dreaming about making,” he said. “It’s loud, weird, funny, and full of heart. These are characters you want to protect even when they’re causing chaos. Working with Curt and the team at Oni Press has been a blast. They gave us room to go big and take risks. I can’t wait for readers to see these dogs unleashed.”
Inside the World of SUPER MONDO MEGA MUTTS
One year ago, a fragment of an interdimensional civilization slammed into downtown Los Angeles. The impact created an unstable no-man’s-land where the laws of physics no longer apply.
Authorities believed no human could survive inside the zone, now known as The Gleam. Instead, the government sent in four research animals. The mission aimed to recover alien technology and turn it into weapons.
The plan failed. What emerged were four transformed dogs with intelligence, independence, and purpose.
Meet WOLF. FRANKEE. GRIFFY. FREDDY.
Guided by their brilliant mentor, Mojo, the SUPER MONDO MEGA MUTTS fight back against corrupt federal forces and gangs empowered by stolen alien tech. Officials thought they could keep these misfits on a leash. They were wrong.
Now the world will learn what happens when these mutts bite back.
A Love Letter With Teeth
“It’s a love letter to Jack Kirby’s Kamandi, Eastman and Laird’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Grant Morrison’s We3,” said series editor Karl Bollers. “The book delivers ambitious worldbuilding and white-knuckle tension. At its core, it’s about four anthropomorphic canines who want one thing. A normal life.”
SUPER MONDO MEGA MUTTS #1 (of 4) hits comic shops everywhere in July.
Fans can also catch Pires and Gedeon signing a classified art print at the ComicsPro Comic Book Industry Meeting in Glendale, running February 18 through February 21.
