Oni Press is heading back into battle this August with Presenting … SHELLSHOCK #1, the next giant-sized special from EC Comics.
The 56-page issue arrives in comic shops on August 19. It follows the recent EC specials SHIVER SUSPENSTORIES, OUTLAW SHOWDOWN, and TORTURED HEARTS with a new collection of war stories built around combat, fear, sacrifice, and humanity’s darkest impulses.
A New Campaign of War Stories
SHELLSHOCK #1 puts readers on the front line, where peace is out of reach and survival comes at a cost.
The special features stories from writers Julio Anta (This Land Is Our Land: A Blue Beetle Story), John Arcudi(B.P.R.D.), Benito Cereno (Invincible Presents: Atom Eve), and Michael W. Conrad (Double Walker).
They are joined by artists Tom Fowler (EC’s Catacomb of Torment), David Lapham (Stray Bullets), Albert Monteys(Slaughterhouse-Five: The Graphic Novel), and Shawn Martinbrough (Thief of Thieves).
Together, the creative team explores the brutal cost of war. Enemy and ally, private and general, all face the same final reward: a flag-draped casket and glory granted after death.
EC’s Darkest Enemy Takes Center Stage
Senior Editor Allyson Gronowitz described the issue as a look at humanity’s most terrifying instincts.
“Take a journey into the deepest depths of the heart of darkness, as SHELLSHOCK showcases the most skin-crawling monster of all: humankind’s capacity for war and bloodshed,” Gronowitz said.
The issue will also include an all-time EC classic, newly remastered and restored.
SHELLSHOCK #1 will arrive with covers from Lee Bermejo (Joker), Tyler Crook (Out of Alcatraz), Tom Fowler(MAD Magazine), Jay Stephens (Dwellings), and Rian Hughes (Epitaphs from the Abyss).
