The Lincoln Lawyer will end with its fifth season on Netflix.
The streamer announced that the legal drama’s next installment will be its last. Production is now underway in Los Angeles. Netflix renewed the series for season five one week before season four premiered in February.
The decision comes after Netflix recently set an end date for another major series. Earlier in May, the streamer announced that The Night Agent will conclude with its fourth season.
New Cast Members Join the Final Season
The final season has added six actors to its cast.
Amy Aquino (Bosch), Angela Trimbur (Search Party), Elpidia Carrillo (Blue Beetle), Nate Corddry (The Testaments), Tricia Helfer (Lucifer, Battlestar Galactica) and Keir O’Donnell (Ray Donovan) have joined the series.
They join previously announced guest stars Chris Diamantopoulos, Corbin Bernsen, Diane Guerrero, Iker Garcia, Patty Guggenheim, Richard Cabral, Steve Howey and Teresa Maria.
Returning cast members include Neve Campbell, Krista Warner, Angelica Maria and Gigi Zumbado.
Resurrection Walk Sets Up Mickey Haller’s Final Case
Based on the novels by Michael Connelly, The Lincoln Lawyer stars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as defense attorney Mickey Haller.
The final season will adapt Resurrection Walk, the seventh book in the series. The story introduces Mickey to a half-sister he never knew existed, Emi, played by Cobie Smulders. Emi comes to Mickey with a plea to help free a woman who was wrongfully convicted.
Becki Newton, Angus Sampson and Jazz Raycole also star.
Showrunners Promise a Proper Ending
Co-showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez said the creative team always wanted to give Mickey Haller’s story a real conclusion.
“All good things must come to an end, but thankfully sometimes how they come to an end is up to us,” Humphrey and Rodriguez said in a statement. “From the very beginning, the mission was always not only to tell the story of Mickey Haller and his compatriots, but also to give that story a proper conclusion. And while it is of course bittersweet, it’s also an amazing opportunity to bring this adventure to a close and perhaps chart a new course for some of our characters into the future.
“We are immensely grateful to Netflix and A+E Studios for the opportunity to land this plane the right way. But most of all, we are grateful to the fans all around the world for watching and supporting the show. We promise you, we are right now building a final season that will provide the satisfying finale Mickey Haller deserves.”
The Series Remains a Strong Performer
Season four of The Lincoln Lawyer spent four weeks in Netflix’s worldwide top 10 for English-language series. It drew 26.4 million views, measured by total viewing hours divided by runtime.
In the United States, the series spent five weeks among Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming shows. It peaked during the week of Feb. 9-15 with 2.54 billion minutes of viewing time, its highest weekly total to date.
