Paranoia collides with deep-space horror in The Shadow Planet, an original graphic novel from writer Giovanni Barbieri and artist Gianluca Pagliarani. Image Comics will release it this September.
“It’s some kind of Star Trek with cigarettes, sex, and bad language,” said Barbieri.
The story follows the crew of the rocket Vidar. They land on a barren planet to rescue a missing patrol. Instead, they discover something that could wipe out humanity.
The Shadow Planet blends retrofuturism with Lovecraftian dread. It’s a must-read for fans of science-fiction horror like Alien, The Thing, Annihilation, and Event Horizon.
Pagliarani described the book as “a bonanza of rusty rockets, clunky space suits, and hideous monsters.”
The Shadow Planet trade paperback will be available at local comic book shops on Wednesday, September 24 and bookstores and digital platforms on Tuesday, October 7.
