Two legendary heroines will cross paths for the first time this November. Dynamite Entertainment is bringing Red Sonja and Barbarella together in a brand-new comic book series that unites two characters who have each spent more than half a century as icons of their respective genres.
The crossover brings the She-Devil With a Sword together with the Siren of the Spaceways. Their worlds could not be more different, but a mystery will pull them together and place both women on a collision course with fate.
A Mystery Connects Two Worlds
Barbarella sets out in search of a mysterious black mirror connected to her past. The object may hold the key to a life she barely remembers and answers about her own history.
Far away, beneath a blood-red sky, Red Sonja rides into danger to rescue an Oracle. A violent prophecy appears to have already determined the Oracle’s fate.
Neither woman knows the other exists or understands the forces drawing them together. Their meeting will bring science fiction and swords and sorcery into direct conflict as the story explores memory, destiny, desire, survival, and debts that may be paid in blood.
Homero Rios Makes His Dynamite Debut
Rising writer Homero Rios makes his Dynamite debut with the historic crossover. The Mexican writer brings experience across science fiction, fantasy, and horror, with previous work appearing in both Heavy Metal and Metal Hurlant.
The series marks Rios’ mainstream American debut with Dynamite. It also pairs him with two characters whose histories have frequently pushed the boundaries of fantasy, science fiction, and other genre storytelling.
“Writing Red Sonja and Barbarella together has been a thrill because they are both iconic, fearless, and larger than life,” said writer Homero Rios. “The goal from the start was to give readers a crossover that feels dangerous and worthy of both legends. One way or another, it’s going to be quite a ride.”
Diego Yapur Brings the Crossover to Life
Artist Diego Yapur joins Rios for the journey across the stars and sword-swept landscapes. Yapur has also appeared in the pages of Heavy Metal and is known for his work on titles including Bloodshot, The Lycan, and projects featuring Frank Frazetta’s creations.
Fans will get an early look at Yapur’s Dynamite work with his cover for Vampirella vs. Red Sonja: Red City this August. He will also contribute covers to Red Sonja / Barbarella.
Red Sonja / Barbarella Features Multiple Covers
In addition to covers from interior artist Diego Yapur, the series will feature artwork from Dynamite fan-favorite Joseph Michael Linsner and Collette Turner. Cosplayer IvyCosplay will also portray each of the two heroines for a pair of photo covers.
