R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead is growing into a full Halloween franchise.
After the success of last year’s Tubi Original, the streaming service has greenlit a sequel. R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead 2 will premiere this October as part of Tubi’s monthlong “Terror on Tubi” lineup.
A New Curse Awakens
The sequel follows Evan, a student dealing with bullies in the town of Redhaven. He discovers a forbidden spellbook that unleashes an ancient curse.
Soon, the pumpkin-headed children of past sacrifices rise from the ground. They target the town during its Harvest Festival.
Redhaven’s only chance may be the return of a witch determined to destroy the spellbook.
Tubi Doubles Down on YA Horror
Tubi is building on the original film’s strong performance.
“Few storytellers have shaped the horror genre for young audiences as profoundly as R.L. Stine, and his work continues to find new life with each generation,” said Tubi chief content officer Adam Lewinson. “Given the breakout success of Pumpkinhead, we’re going deeper into this mythology and continuing our commitment to fans of young adult horror.”
Stine also welcomed the sequel.
“Halloween wouldn’t be Halloween without a good story about kids being trapped inside a pumpkin. I’m so happy that we are going to have another pumpkin head adventure on Tubi,” he said.
Creative Team Returns
The sequel comes from Front Street Pictures. Writer-director Jem Garrard returns after helming the first film.
Garrard also serves as executive producer. He is joined by James Mattagne, Joan Waricha, Harvey Kahn, Yvonne Bernard, Dan Bernard, Allen Lewis, and Rama Diallo.
A Proven Streaming Hit
The original R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead debuted as part of Tubi’s “Terror on Tubi” slate. The lineup surpassed 100 million hours of total viewing time.
Stine remains a major force in young adult horror. He is best known for the Goosebumps and Fear Street book series.
With a sequel on the way, Tubi is betting the franchise will become a Halloween staple.
