Legendary artist Charlie Adlard returns to single-issue comics with the upcoming Image Comics miniseries Of the Earth.
Adlard joins co-writers Chris Condon (That Texas Blood) and Andrew Ehrich, along with colorist Pip Martin(Everything Dead & Dying), letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou (Assorted Crisis Events), and designer Mike Tivey(News from the Fallout). The six-issue series launches in May and blends neo-noir tension with eco-horror themes.
“I’ve always wanted to work with Chris for a long time, ever since I was aware of his collaborations with Jake Phillips,” said Adlard. “And finally I got my wish with a brilliant atmospheric horror tale with an eco twist. It’s the best type of story for me. It’s full of atmosphere and great characters. Plus I get the pleasure of working with Pip, Hassan, Andrew, and Michael.”
A Dark Return Home
Of the Earth follows Tabitha “Tabby” Black, who escapes a troubled life and returns to her hometown of Solitude, Texas. She seeks refuge in the home where her grandmother raised her.
But the town she remembers has changed.
And so has her Gramma.
A Horror Story with Noir Roots
Writer Chris Condon says the project brings together a powerful creative team.
“Charlie Adlard is a legend in the comic book industry and I have the utmost confidence that his name alone lends this book credibility, and with good reason,” Condon said. “Still, what makes this book special is the all-star team we’ve assembled.”
Condon highlighted the contributions of letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, colorist Pip Martin, designer Michael Tivey, and co-writer Andrew Ehrich, whom he described as a newcomer to the industry.
“Of the Earth is an atmospheric, terror-soaked excursion into the unknown,” Condon said. “It’s an eco-horror story with a suspenseful neo-noir tinge. It’s John Carpenter’s The Thing meets Blood Simple, and I cannot wait to unleash this oil-soaked terror upon the world with Charlie and the rest of the team.”
Of the Earth #1 arrives at comic book shops and digital platforms on Wednesday, May 20.
