Warren Ellis and Chris Sprouse’s science fiction/horror thriller Ocean is returning to print for the first time in years. Image Comics will give the cult-classic first contact story a new publishing home with a trade paperback edition arriving this fall.
The new edition collects all six issues of the original miniseries. Ellis is the bestselling writer behind Transmetropolitan, Netflix’s Castlevania, and Trees, while Sprouse’s credits include Black Panther, Tom Strong, and Batman.
A First Contact Story Beneath Europa
Ocean is a standalone graphic novel that blends science fiction, horror, and mystery. The story should appeal to fans of the film Arrival and Jeff Vandermeer’s Annihilation, while arriving during a renewed wave of public interest in UFOs.
The story centers on Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons. A half-mile-thick layer of ice covers the moon, and beneath it lies the only off-world ocean known to humanity.
A Discovery Changes the Mission
A small research station orbiting Europa discovers something disturbing beneath the ice. The discovery brings U.N. weapons inspector Nathan Kane to Europa to assess what the researchers have found.
Thousands of coffins are suspended beneath the surface of the Europan ocean. Kane and the researchers soon learn they are not the only people in orbit who want to discover what is inside them.
Ocean will arrive at local comic book shops and digital platforms on Wednesday, October 28. The trade paperback will follow at bookstores on Tuesday, November 24.
