Skybound and Image Comics, in collaboration with Hasbro, have introduced one of the Micronauts’ most notorious villains to the Energon Universe. Baron Karza makes his first appearance in the shared comic book universe in M.A.S.K. #3, available now in comic shops.
The issue comes from writer Dan Watters, known for Nightwing and DESTRO, and artist Pye Parr, whose credits include Petrol Head and New Gods. Colorist Pierluigi Casolino of DC vs Vampires and Transformers letterer Rus Wooton complete the creative team.
M.A.S.K. Continues Its Surprise-Filled Run
M.A.S.K. made an immediate impact when the series launched. Its blind bag program generated strong attention across the comic book industry and introduced ROM to Skybound’s Energon Universe.
The series has continued to build momentum through unexpected character appearances. M.A.S.K. #3 delivers its biggest surprise yet by revealing the identity of Miles Mayhem’s secret ally.
Baron Karza Joins Miles Mayhem
Mayhem’s mysterious partner is Baron Karza, the longtime Micronauts villain. His arrival suggests Mayhem has dangerous plans for Matt Trakker and Trakker’s son, Scotty.
Skybound is marking the character’s introduction with a reprint of the third issue. Executive Editor Ben Abernathy said the response to the series has exceeded expectations.
“The record-setting launch of M.A.S.K. shocked and delighted fans, and we’re continuing the exciting momentum with the reprint of this monumental third issue,” Abernathy said. “With the introduction of the mysterious Baron Karza, who knows what could happen next!”
The Energon Universe Expands
M.A.S.K. is the latest addition to the ongoing collaboration between Skybound and Hasbro. The title joins a shared Energon Universe line that brings several major properties together within one connected comic book continuity.
The lineup includes Void Rivals by writer Robert Kirkman, artist Conor Hughes of White Ash, and Catwoman colorist Patricio Delpeche. It also features the two-time Eisner Award-winning Transformers by Kirkman, artist Jason Howard of The Astounding Wolf-Man, and colorist Mike Spicer, whose credits include Stillwater and Murder Falcon.
G.I. Joe also continues within the Energon Universe. The series comes from Superman and Legion of Super-Heroes writer Joshua Williamson, Cobra Commander artist Andrea Milana, and Thor and Star Wars colorist Lee Loughridge.
M.A.S.K. #3 is available now at comic book shops and on digital platforms. The issue marks Baron Karza’s first Energon Universe appearance and opens the door to his larger plans for Mayhem, Matt Trakker, and Scotty.
