The award-winning Monstress series marks its 10th anniversary this year, and Image Comics plans a major celebration. The publisher will release a new edition of Monstress, Vol. 1 with a gold foil treatment. The special reprint arrives alongside the deluxe hardcover editions, the massive Monstress Book One Compendium paperback, and Monstress, Vol. 10. All titles land on shelves in time for the holiday season.
A Dark, Steampunk World With High Stakes
Created by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda, Monstress is set in an alternate version of 1900s Asia. The series blends art deco and steampunk influences with a world filled with arcane threats. At its center is a teenage girl trying to recover from war. Her struggle becomes even more dangerous when she forms a psychic bond with an ancient monster. The connection changes both of them and draws the attention of human and supernatural forces.
A Critically Acclaimed, Record-Breaking Run
Monstress debuted in 2015 and quickly became a critical and commercial hit. The series has been reprinted many times and earned a long list of honors, including multiple Eisner Awards, multiple Harvey Awards, a Hugo Award, a World Fantasy Award, and a British Fantasy Award. It has also appeared on numerous Best of the Year lists, including Entertainment Weekly, Newsweek, The Washington Post, Thrillist, Barnes & Noble, Powell’s, and the American Library Association’s YALSA list.
In 2016, Marjorie Liu made history when she became the first woman to win the Eisner Award for Best Writer for her work on the series.
