Image Comics Revives ‘Imaginary Fiends’ in New Collection

Imaginary Fiends

The fan-favorite horror miniseries Imaginary Fiends is returning in a new trade paperback edition from Image Comics this fall. The collection will feature the complete series by writer Tim Seeley (Revival, Hack/Slash) and artist Stephen Molnar (Star Trek/Green Lantern, Danger Girl: Renegade).

DC/Vertigo first published the horror and crime noir series to widespread critical acclaim. The story combines the bone-chilling horror of Scott Snyder and Jock’s Wytches with the twisted procedural mystery of James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds’ The Department of Truth.

A Childhood Nightmare Returns

When Melba Li was 10 years old, authorities sent her to a mental institution for attempted murder. Melba blamed the crime on a spidery phantom called “Polly Peachpit.”

Now, Melba is approaching her 18th birthday when the FBI presents her with an unexpected offer. In exchange for a reprieve from her sentence, she must work with Special Agent Virgil Crockett to hunt I.M.P.s, or Interdimensional Mental Parasites, that prey on human minds.

Polly Peachpit is one of those creatures. Crockett needs Melba to convince her childhood tormentor to join their mission.

Only I.M.P.s and the humans linked to them can see and interact with one another. That connection makes Melba and Polly essential to Crockett’s investigation.

Success could finally free Melba from the trauma of her past. However, she must first survive a partnership with the creature that drove her mad.

Tim Seeley Revisits the Horror Series

“When I first came up with Imaginary Fiends, I envisioned it as a horror story for a new generation—a comic book for the kind of fans who were into creepy pastas, slender men, and back rooms,” said Seeley. “And, with this new release, we’re finally at the right time and in the right place. Imaginary Fiends is one of my favorite series I’ve done—a dark tale of imagination, disconnection, and obsession…with sexy monsters and beautiful art by Stephen and Quinton.”

The Imaginary Fiends trade paperback will arrive at comic book shops and digital platforms on Wednesday, September 30. It will reach bookstores on Tuesday, October 27.
