Skybound and Image Comics are teaming up with Hasbro to launch the G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero Hama Files Editions this fall. This new program highlights the most iconic issues of G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero, with commentary from the man behind the stories—legendary writer Larry Hama (Wolverine, The ‘Nam).
Each Hama Files edition reprints a classic issue and features a brand-new letter from Hama. In it, he shares behind-the-scenes details and insights into the series’ most important moments. As the creative force of G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero from the very beginning, Hama offers a perspective no one else can.
The program launches with G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #26, one of the most celebrated issues in the franchise’s history. Written and penciled by Hama, inked by Steve Leialoha (Sandman, Fables), and colored by George Roussos (Fantastic Four, The Avengers), this special Hama Files edition arrives in comic shops on November 26, 2025.
This issue reveals the explosive origin of Snake-Eyes. Readers learn his hidden past and his connection to Storm Shadow—a twist that forever changed the G.I. JOE universe. The story remains one of the most sought-after and defining moments in the series, loved by both longtime fans and new readers.
“Each issue of the Hama Files reprints an essential G.I. Joe story,” said Alex Antone, Editorial Director at Skybound. “Inside, a letter from Larry Hama adds fresh insight to these classic comics. We can’t wait for fans to read them.”
The debut release features a main cover by Mike Zeck and Bob Wiacek. Variant options include an open-to-order cover by current series artist Chris Mooneyham and a foil version of the Zeck & Wiacek artwork.
