Skybound and Image Comics, in partnership with Hasbro, have announced a special set of connecting variant covers arriving in June 2026. The covers celebrate the third anniversary of the Energon Universe, the record-breaking comics line that launched with the surprise debut of Void Rivals #1 by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Lorenzo De Felici.
The anniversary variants feature artwork by Skybound-exclusive artist Tom Reilly (G.I. JOE) with colors by Adriano Lucas (Ghost Pepper). Together they deliver a sweeping tribute to the growing Energon Universe.
A Rapidly Expanding Comics Universe
Since its launch, the Energon Universe has expanded into several flagship titles. The line includes the two-time Eisner Award-winning TRANSFORMERS, currently created by writer Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead), artist Jason Howard (The Astounding Wolf-Man), and colorist Mike Spicer (Stillwater, Murder Falcon).
The universe also includes G.I. JOE, written by Joshua Williamson (Superman, Dark Ride) with art by Andrea Milana (Cobra Commander) and colors by Lee Loughridge (Scarlett).
A new addition joins the lineup this summer. M.A.S.K. launches June 3 with writer Dan Watters (Batman: Dark Patterns, DESTRO), artist Pye Parr (Petrol Head, New Gods), and colorist Pierluigi Casolino (DC vs Vampires).
Massive Anniversary Artwork
Every Energon Universe comic released in June 2026 will feature two open-to-order connecting variant covers. One presents Reilly and Lucas’s full-color artwork. The other offers a black-and-white version of the same illustration.
The massive image features 82 characters from across the Energon Universe. The lineup includes recent additions and returning fan favorites such as M.A.S.K., V.E.N.O.M., Arcee Magnus, Crystal Ball, Storm Shadow, and Scarlett.
Collectors will be able to assemble the full connecting image across several titles.
