Oni Press and William M. Gaines Agent, Inc. are celebrating the historic return of EC Comics with EPITAPHS FROM THE ABYSS LIBRARY EDITION: BOOK ONE. This release launches a new line of premium hardcovers collecting the entire new EC library at Oni Press.
Two editions arrive on July 14, 2026, just as foretold by EC’s nightmarish new horror host, the Grave-Digger. Readers can choose between a standard oversized hardcover and the LIMITED SLIPCASE & PORTFOLIO EDITION, capped at 1,000 copies.
A Definitive Collection of Modern EC Horror
Both editions collect EPITAPHS FROM THE ABYSS #1–12 in a deluxe 7.5″ x 11.5″ oversized hardcover. The stories embrace the classic EC tradition of dark intent and escalating tension.
Writers include Jason Aaron, Brian Azzarello, Corinna Bechko, Chris Condon, J. Holtham, and Matt Kindt. Artists bringing the terror to life include Charlie Adlard, Tyler Crook, Kano, Klaus Janson, Leomacs, Alison Sampson, and more.
Each edition also features over 50 pages of behind-the-scenes material. Readers will find process art, character designs for EC’s new horror hosts, a complete cover gallery, and new commentary from Jay Stephens and series designer Rian Hughes.
Inside the Limited Slipcase and Portfolio Edition
The LIMITED SLIPCASE & PORTFOLIO EDITION offers an expanded collector experience. This version includes the oversized hardcover plus a specially designed portfolio of 11″ x 7″ cardstock prints.
The portfolio reproduces all 12 covers by Lee Bermejo in gallery-ready format. Everything is housed in a foil-stamped slipcase featuring artwork by Dustin Weaver and design by Eisner Award nominee Rian Hughes.
Lee Bermejo and the Legacy of EC Covers
EC Comics horror covers are legendary. They are provocative, unforgettable, and burned into the memory of generations of readers. This release marks the first-ever portfolio for the new EC Comics era at Oni Press.
The collection showcases Lee Bermejo’s covers from the entire first series. Bermejo is known for his work on Joker, Batman: Damned, and A Vicious Circle, and is widely regarded as one of the industry’s most distinctive artists.
“The dream as an artist has always been for a publisher to let you off your leash with total freedom,” said Bermejo. “My dream nightmare came true with EC and Oni. It was an honor to try and creep you out every month and be a small part of one of the greatest legacies in comics. EC horror.”
From the Comics Code to a Modern Resurrection
In 1955, the Comics Code Authority effectively ended EC Comics’ original horror line, including Tales from the Crypt, Vault of Horror, and The Haunt of Fear. Those titles went on to define American horror for decades.
Now, Oni Press has revived EC Comics for the 21st century. The new line has already earned strong sales, critical acclaim, and award nominations, led by its flagship series EPITAPHS FROM THE ABYSS.
The EPITAPHS FROM THE ABYSS LIBRARY EDITION: BOOK ONE arrives in comic shops and bookstores on July 14, 2026. With two meticulously designed editions available, this release is essential for EC fans and horror collectors alike.
