J.G. Jones and Phil Bram team up to launch Dust to Dust, a standalone graphic novel set during the Great Depression. Jones also handles interior art, bringing a stark visual edge to the story. Image Comics will release the book this spring.
A Killer Haunts a Dying Town
The story unfolds in Oklahoma’s dust-choked panhandle as apocalyptic storms overtake the region. In the struggling town of New Hope, a string of brutal murders spreads fear through the community.
Sheriff Meadows, burdened by his past, takes the lead on the case. He partners with Sarah, a determined photojournalist, to track a killer who moves unseen through the dust and decay. The murderer leaves behind only bodies and few clues.
Publisher Praises Jones’ Storytelling
Eric Stephenson, Publisher and Chief Creative Officer at Image Comics, praised Jones’ work.
“If all you know about J.G. Jones is his cover work for Y: The Last Man or his star turn on Wanted, prepare to be amazed, impressed, bowled over—you name it,” Stephenson said. “This is top flight storytelling from a comics master, and you need to have this on your bookshelf, your nightstand, your coffee table—wherever the great comics go in your household. High five, J.G.!”
A Noir Story with Western Roots
The book blends historical drama with noir tension. It draws comparisons to Yellowstone and Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy, while leaning into a suspense style inspired by Alfred Hitchcock.
Critics have already responded strongly. Graphic Policy called it “a hell of a debut… one of the best debuts of the year,” praising its haunting tone and striking visuals.
Dust to Dust will arrive in comic book shops on Wednesday, May 27. Bookstores will carry the trade paperback starting Tuesday, June 23.
