Oni Press announces a major addition to the EC Comics legacy. Award-winning novelist and screenwriter Joe R. Lansdale joins the publisher’s revived EC line with an all-new story titled “Picture Perfect.” The story debuts in Catacomb of Torment #9 this March. Eisner Award winner David Lapham provides the art.
A Legendary Career in Horror and Comics
Lansdale is a winner of 11 Bram Stoker Awards, along with the American Horror Award, British Fantasy Award, and Edgar Award. His career spans more than four decades and includes over 50 novels, feature films, television series, short stories, and comics.
He is widely recognized as a pioneer of the “weird western” genre. His work blends classic American frontier tales with horror and the grotesque. He is best known for his reimagining of DC’s Jonah Hex with artist Timothy Truman, his cult creation Bubba Ho-Tep, and the long-running Hap & Leonard series.

“I’m honored to work in the EC tradition, and Oni’s interpretation is fantastic and beautiful,” said Lansdale. “It rings the bells of the original comics while managing to stretch the tradition of EC into the 21st century.”
Oni Press President and Publisher Hunter Gorinson called the collaboration deeply personal. “Working with Joe R. Lansdale under the immortal EC Comics banner is two life-long dreams come together,” he said. “His influence on comics, fiction, and film is undeniable. It is an honor to have him in our ranks.”
