Dynamite Entertainment and Archie Comics reveal the creative team behind their next high-energy crossover. Archie x The Army of Darkness arrives in February, sending Archie Andrews and Ash Williams on a chaotic trip to hell and back.
Burnham and Galvan Lead the Creative Charge
The project was first teased at New York Comic Con. Now Dynamite and Archie confirm the team steering this crossover. Writer Erik Burnham returns to the world of Ash and the Army of Darkness after his work on Army of Darkness vs. Reanimator: Necronomicon Rising. His long list of credits includes Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers, and Godzilla. He now brings the Riverdale cast into the fray.
To lock in the classic Archie look, editor Matt Idelson pairs Burnham with longtime Archie artist Bill Galvan. Galvan has spent two decades shaping Riverdale’s visual identity. He brings that signature style to the crossover’s big twist.
Ash Arrives in Riverdale
Ash Williams is no stranger to endless fights against evil. He battles Deadites wherever he lands, from the aisles of S-Mart to the edges of the multiverse. That cycle finally breaks when he lands in Riverdale, a town so wholesome it seems to cancel his curse.
The calm does not last. Archie Andrews discovers a copy of the Necronomicon Ex Mortis and unknowingly unleashes the Deadites again. Ash teams with the townspeople to push back the undead long enough for Archie to fix his mistake.
Creators Tease a Wild Ride
“I’m excited that I get to inconvenience Ash once again by pitting him against the forces of evil,” said Burnham. “But to also get a crack at writing the genuine American icons that are Archie and the gang at the same time? Pinch me.”
Archie Comics Senior Director of Editorial Jamie L. Rotante promises fans a crossover that celebrates both worlds. “Erik Burnham’s story is going to take readers on a thrill ride that pays homage to the best of both franchises. Bill Galvan perfectly captures the essence of the Archie characters while delivering bold and sometimes horrifying art. This series will be a treat.”
Variant Covers and Special Editions
The launch includes a lineup of variant covers from Bill Galvan, Robert Hack, Laura Braga, Craig Cermak, and Stuart Sayger. Fans can also pick up a premium mystery blind bag edition of issue #1. Each bag includes three limited-edition variants selected from a wide range. Two exclusive covers by Galvan and Francesco Francavilla appear only in the blind bags, along with several line-art variants and colored blanks.
