Dynamite Entertainment has launched a limited-time Kickstarter campaign for the first comprehensive reprint volumes of Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters, the cult action-adventure comic created by Don Chin.
The campaign is live now. Fans can pledge to secure new anniversary editions of the classic anthropomorphic parody series.
A Cult Comic Returns
Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters debuted in 1986 during the rise of funny animal parody comics. The first issue paid direct tribute to the historic work of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, whose half-shell heroes helped define the era.
But Don Chin’s creation quickly stood out from the crowd.
The series arrived during what comics historians call the “black and white boom.” That period opened the door for a wave of independent creators. Easier access to comic creation, printing, and distribution gave new voices a platform.
Like their reptile cousins, the Hamsters built a loyal fan base. Their adventures continued across more than 20 issues and four decades.
Two Remastered Anniversary Volumes
For the series’ 40th anniversary, Dynamite is collecting the classic adventures into two remastered volumes.
Fans can choose from several formats. Options include paperbacks, hardcovers, a slipcase edition, and signed or remarqued editions by Don Chin himself.
What Is Included in Volume 1
Volume 1 collects:
- Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters (1986) #1-9
- Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters: Escape from New York
- Clint: Hamster Triumphant #1-2
What Is Included in Volume 2
Volume 2 collects:
- Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters 3-D #1-4
- Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters Massacre the Japanese Invasion
- Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters: The Lost Treasures
- Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters (2008) #1-4
Each book runs more than 300 pages. Together, the volumes deliver a full dose of martial arts mayhem and hectic hamsterdom.
The 3D Comics Experience
Volume 2 opens with the series’ memorable 3D comics. Those issues pushed the boundaries of comic book storytelling and became a standout part of the Hamsters’ history.
To complete the experience, the books include a pair of 3D glasses. That allows fans to enjoy the material as intended.
A Long List of Comic Creators
Don Chin was joined by a wide range of creators throughout the history of Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters.
Contributors include Patrick Parsons, Sam Kieth, Brent Anderson, Michael Avon-Oeming, Bill Maus, Tom Sutton, Ron Lim, Gary Bloomfield, Moose Baumann, and many more.
Celebrating an Independent Comics Legacy
The Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters came from one of the most creative periods in comic book history. The series captured the spirit of independent publishing. It proved that imagination, humor, and raw creative energy could build a fan community that lasts for decades.
Chin is working closely with Dynamite’s team on the anniversary editions. The goal is to make these releases the definitive version of the Hamsters’ legacy.
Kickstarter Extras
The Kickstarter also includes several optional extras.
Fans can add a limited facsimile edition of the first issue, one-of-one character sketches by fan-favorite artist Ken Haeser, and more. The campaign is currently live, and fans are encouraged to lock in their pledge to secure their hauls.
